Vault-Tec

From the Vault-Tec Archive Terminal

One could speculate the Vault-tec rep was making a joke after noticing the similarity in its sound, or that it simply was just incorrectly heard over the phone with all of the noise of construction in the background. But Dominic Quentin became Dom Quantum on the paperwork involved for winning the contest and thus Nuka~Cola also updating the life time supply of Nuka~Cola to Nuka~Cola Quantum as a result.

The mini vault was built in secret underneath Dom's family home and neighbors grew suspicious with the immense level of noise resulting from this amount of construction. As those who questioned were told the home was undergoing a renovation project, none ever discovered what was really occurring, not before it was too late at least.

Regardless, the vault wasn't easy to find. One would have to first gain access to the garage, in the center was an automotive two post lift. At first glance on the ground between the posts, it would appear to be metal grated flooring designed with the intent of protecting a garage floor involved in automotive repair. In actually, it was a secured Vault-tec hatch that accessed a tunnel leading deeper into the ground to the vaults gear shaped air lock door. It was here where Dom and his family would rush to when the bombs began to fall.

At this point in time, life would proceed underground in their new Vault-tec home. Despite the utter nuclear devastation occurring on the surface, adapting to life underground was made easier with the vault being designed around their needs and hobbies. For instance, as a vehicle would have been too large, a suit of T60 power armor was gifted and placed in the corner of the vaults workshop which Dom began to tinker with to satisfy his automotive prowess. For the most part everyone was happy and with the additional spare bedrooms, Dom managed to sneak in his dog Courage despite this not being a common Vault-tec approved policy.

More importantly, this was a Vault-tec vault, and thus, it too was designed with a specific Vault-tec experiment. However, this experiment would not soon be discovered as it was not exposed within the Overseer instructions. Instead, within the Overseer terminal in the Overseer office, Dom found documentation on a life style for healthy living underground. The guidance contained daily meal and exercise recommendations, among other things, to ensure that Dom and his family would maintain a level of good health, especially if they should be consuming the life time supply of Nuka~Cola Quantum, which they did not. However, as time went on, Dom would eventually develop a predilection to the drinks bright glow caused by the strontium-90 isotope derivative.

The goal behind this was to keep track of their weight, measurements, meals, workout routines and general vitals. The Quantum’s went along with this guidance thinking it was necessary with the change of living in a vault. Life underground progressed smoothly, they maintained a healthy life style, enjoyed all the amenities of their new home and even managed to conceive a healthy daughter named River (aka Rattles) into their fold. But throughout this time, there were signs that something wasn’t quite right.
